Man who threatened 'South Park' creators gets 25 years in prison

Washington (CNN) -- A 21-year-old man who admitted posting online threats against the creators of the animated TV series "South Park" was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison.
Zachary Adam Chesser encouraged violent jihadists to attack "South Park" writers for an episode that depicted the Prophet Mohammed in a bear suit, court documents said.
He posted online messages that included the writers' home addresses and urged online readers to "pay them a visit," the documents said.
"His actions caused people throughout the country to fear speaking out -- even in jest -- to avoid being labeled as enemies who deserved to be killed," U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride said. "The fact that a young man from Northern Virginia could support such violence and terror is a sobering reminder of the serious threat that homegrown jihadists pose to this country."
Chesser pleaded guilty in October to providing material support to terrorists, communicating threats and soliciting others to threaten violence. The three charges carried a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
"I accept full responsibility for all of my actions, and I would like to take the opportunity to express remorse," he said in court.
Chesser, who was born in the United States, converted to Islam in high school. U.S. District Court Judge Liam O'Grady told Chesser he had made a big leap from being a high school athlete to a traitor.
Chesser also admitted that he tried to go to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab, an Islamic militant group that the United States considers a terrorist organization.
  3. February 25, 2011 - More "The Book Of Mormon" mews, and the article in the March issue of Maxim:
The play has opened to great reviews
    God's favorite musical.
The play riffs on The Music Man
The Mormon Church isn't bothered by the play.
"Do goofy stories make people nice? What if, in their goofiness, these stories somehow inspire that in the right way. Is that a social good?"

And now, for your reading pleasure...

  4. February 27, 2011 - Does anyone know where this image is from? I thought it was BASEketball, but it wasn't that, and I know it's not Orgazmo either. Any guesses?
  5. March 4, 2011 - Transcript of Matt and Trey on The Late Show Monday night. Nothing all that revealing. I mean, Dave asked them about something that happened 11 years ago. Come on now!

Spring 2011

  1. March 24, 2011 - Now that Jimmy Fallon has a copy of "Immature" and played a song from it on last night's show, I decided to bring back the Rare Media portion of SPSChat, which has six of the songs from that tape. I'm not bringing back the commentaries though - Paramount frowned on that a few years ago. I'll update my front page for Spring later on today.
  2. March 25, 2011 - Two more years of South Park coming your way after this year. :) The Hollywood Reporter has a long article on the duo. The news we've all been waiting for:
A week after they leave New York around March 28, the pair hurtles into the 15th season of South Park, part of a new pact with Comedy Central that keeps the show on the air through 2013 and is said to be even richer than their previous $75 million deal.
  3. March 28, 2011 - 15 Artists Interpret South Park: You're invited to submit your own art at South Park Studios for a fan gallery.
  4. March 30, 2011 - Kidrobot is getting into the South Park figurine business. J.ME. (¯¯ε(#¯¯) posts about it.
  5. April 10, 2011 - TV By The Numbers reports that South Park won its category, Best Animated Comedy Series at The Comedy Awards! Woohoo!!!
  6. April 12, 2011 - South Park Studios announces the arrival of Season 15 (and the season 14 DVD and BD). Eh, nothing we don't already know. Read below:

  7. April 14, 2011 - A clarification: Nothing about the new season is revealed in the press release that we don't already know. And that all 14 episodes will be on the DVD has been known since February 7, something I thought I didn't have to post since it seemed outrageous that Comedy Central would release an incomplete season. And since Season 13 was released with deleted scenes, it seemed logical to think Season 14 would be too. Anyway, here's the February 7 entry from TVShowsOnDVD. And the artwork.
  8. April 24, 2011 - South Park Studios announces the first new episode of season 15: Humancentipad

All Canadians are called upon to help save the princess. Ike answers the call to arms.

NEW YORK, May 16, 2011 The boys penis sizes are made public in an all-new episode of "South Park" titled "T.M.I." Cartman is furious when the school posts the kids penis sizes on the bulletin board. He throws an absolute fit and once again finds himself in the principal's office. This time he gets sent to anger management therapy.
  13. May 20, 2011 - Friends, this is the first episode in a long time I can say was old-school. There are a lot of dyns in this ep. :)
  14. May 23, 2011 - This week's episode info, from South Park Studios!

NEW YORK, May 23, 2011 - Crack babies are finally getting the attention they deserve in an all-new episode of "South Park" titled "Crack Baby Athletic Association." Cartman has a new protégé. NEW YORK, May 27, 2011 - It's time for Butters to learn the truth about himself in an all-new episode of "South Park" titled "City Sushi." Butters is diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. The boys want to help Butters find out what's really happening to him but Butters may not like what they find.
  16. May 31, 2011 - It has come to my attention that there are no production blogs for this season so far. Some of the fans are wondering why.
  17. June 6, 2011 - This week's episode info, from South Park Studios!

NEW YORK, June 6, 2011 - All the kids are listening to Tween wave in an all-new episode of "South Park" titled "Youre Getting Old," After Stan celebrates his 10th birthday, he begins to see everything differently. The other boys think he's become a major buzzkill and start to avoid hanging out with him. When Stan and Kyle have a major blow up, the very fabric of South Park begins to unravel.
  18. June 11, 2011 - The first half of the season is over and we don't know what awaits us on October 5th. All we know is that Stan's world has changed drastically. His father is gone and he's in a new place himself. His friends can no longer stand his cynicism.
  19. June 15, 2011 - Last week's episode had a visitor lurking in the bowling alley. Were there other visitor sightings at all last year or in the six other episodes this year?
  20. June 16, 2011 - Matt and Trey were on the Daily Show last night and reassured us that they still love South Park and that it's their thing. They had a good time making "You're Getting Old," so don't worry about any friction between them that the episode might have implied. Audio for those of you who can't see the video. And thirdly, The Book of Mormon won 9 of the 14 Tonys it was nominated for. Here's the list:

    Best Musical
Best Book of a Musical (Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, Matt Stone)
Best Original Score Written for the Theatre (Parker, Lopez, Stone)

Summer 2011

  1. August 24, 2011 - I've been away moving to a new house and waiting for my Internet access to catch up with me, and in that time I've learned that South Park was let off the hook for spoofing 'What What (In the Butt)' (from The Hollywood Reporter, July 13, 2011); the show was Emmy-nominated for "Crack Baby Athletic Association." The show was featured at Comic Con a month ago. Anne Garefino gave a behind-the-scenes look at the show (The Morton Report, July 20, 2011). A new documentary on South Park will air on Octber 2 (Playbill, Agust 17, 2011). Cheesy Poofs will be available in four days at Walmart (Delish, July 18, 2011). The West Memphis Three were released from prison after 18 years. Matt and Trey lobbied for their freedom 11 years ago. And finally, people outside the States who are just now getting the Season 14 DVD sets will find 12 episodes there instead of 14. As a poster on the SPS BBS pointed out...
200 & 201 will be missing from the set.

    DVD Description
All twelve, internationally-broadcast episodes from South Park’s 14th season are packed into this exclusive three-disc set.

As you know, "200" and "201" were not internationally broadcast. Most of us know this is because of Muhammad, but a few of us think it's because of Tom Cruise and M:I IV.
  2. August 26, 2011 - DERP! A funny, pained expression on a person's face is now called "derpy." And you probably know, but if not, South Park has been renewed for two more years. The Book Of Mormon Won A Drama League Award - Best Musical - back on May 20. All Matt and Trey need to do is win an Oscar to complete the EGOT cycle. On June 14, the soundtrack for The Book Of Mormon debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 countdown, making it the highest charting Broadway cast album ever. And finally, Matt and Trey are now an American institution, up there with "Monty Python's Flying Circus," "SCTV," Ernie Kovacs, the Marx Brothers, George Carlin and W.C. Fields.
  3. August 31, 2011 - So uhhh, where are the Cheesy Poofs? I've been to two Walmarts in Los Angeles and haven't found them there. Someone else has been calling around the L.A. area only to find that the employees don't know what he's talking about. A third person did find Cheesy Poofs, but didn't say where he found them. He was quite dissatisfied. Heer's his review:
Been a fan of South Park since 1998. Huge fan here, been watching since the first season and have never stopped. Went to pick up my Cheesy Poofs today at The Wal-Mart. First of all, they weren't in a green box like in the show. I mean, that's not totally terrible, as they came in an orange bag with the rocket logo and the Cheesy Poofs song quoted on the back. But, a little attention to detail would have been nice. I thought it was curious when I saw that my receipt said "Cheetos." Anyway, I got home tonight after work and opened them up - only to find things shaped like Cheetos. They aren't poofs, and they aren't balls like they are in the show. They pretty much put Cheetos in a Cheesy Poofs bag and sold them. I wouldn't have been surprised had it been anyone other than South Park, who seems to remain true to their fans. But, I mean, c'mon. You can't just give us a different bag and tell us they are Cheesy Poofs. Pretty pissed off here, just had to let you know. A friend of mine who is also a huge fan wanted me to pick some up for him as he doesn't live near a Wal-Mart, but he said not to bother once I told him they were just Cheetos in a different bag. I know I am taking this awfully serious, but I expected better from the Matt & Trey. Year of the fan my ass.
  4. September 2, 2011 - Guess Walmart decided to bring out the Cheesy Poofs with their Labor Day displays. I went to the Panorama City Walmart again yesterday and found them there. These are the large 9.75 oz. bags selling for $2.50 (instead of a 2.375 oz. bag for $2.99), so it's priced to sell along with other chips you might buy for Labor Day festivities! I hear they'll be available untl the 18th, but the bags have a sell-by date of Noveember 1.
  5. September 13, 2011 - Now that the Cheesy Poofs have come (and we know they're just Cheetos Puffs under a different name, and they're both selling at the same time, heh), I can now focus on Matt and Trey news, and boy was there a lot last week and yesterday. Check it out:
  6. September 21, 2011 - Press release for the second half of Season 15:

Butters is filled with Mexican Pride. What begins as an innocent game between the boys turns serious when Cartman joins the U.S. Border Patrol. Not surprisingly, Cartman turns out to be really good at stopping Mexicans.
  6. October 16, 2011 - New episode info for this Wedneday!

Episode 1510 - Bass to Mouth

The students of South Park Elementary are the victims of a new gossip website. An elusive hacker has somehow gained access into the student's confidential phone calls and e-mails and is posting all their juicy stories. The boys are shocked when they discover the identity of the hacker.
This is a good time for Lemmiwinks to return to the show... as... The Wikileaks Gerbil! At least the 60 Minutes clip a few weeks back hinted at it.
  7. October 23, 2011 - New episode info for this Wedneday!

Episode 1511 - Broadway Bro Down

Randy's co-workers show him what's great about Broadway Musicals. Sharon is thrilled that Randy is making an effort to do more things that she enjoys. But, after he takes her to see a hit musical in Denver, Randy becomes Broadway's biggest fan. Sharon is whisked away to New York and treated to every musical on the Great White Way.
  8. October 26, 2011 - There will be four songs on "Broadway Bro Down" tonight. There were originally going to be two, but well...
Lopez revealed that as of Monday night the episode only featured two songs, but two more tunes were added at the last minute, including a montage in which Randy visits Broadway hits like Wicked, Sister Act and The Phantom of the Opera. Should any of these musicals be nervous about getting targeted by Parker and Stone’s signature raunchy wit? “I don’t think so,” Lopez said. “It’s a little bit of a silly satirical version of these shows, and Wicked is Trey’s favorite show hands down. He always seems to be telling me to write something that sounds like Wicked.”
  9. October 30, 2011 - New episode info for this Wedneday!

    Episode 1512 - 1%

One fat fourth grader is singled out when the Presidential Physical Fitness scores are announced. The kids at South Park Elementary are being punished for Cartman's failings in the physical education department. What will Cartman do when they all gang up on him?

After watching a Thanksgiving special on The History Channel, the boys believe that aliens were involved in the original feast. But, questions remain... was the first Thanksgiving haunted? Is alien technology responsible for stuffing? The truth could change Thanksgiving for everyone.
  11. November 13, 2011 - Here's some info for the season finale this Wednesday, The Poor Kid

Episode 1514 - The Poor Kid

Kenny's parents are arrested. With their parents in jail, Kenny and his brother and sister find themselves in the foster care system. Cartman is sincerely disturbed when Kenny is taken away. He doesn't know who to rip on for being the poorest kid in the school anymore.
A note on Kenny's little sister: Kenny was supposed to have one since the beginning of the show, and she was supposed to look like Ike, but that didn't happen, just like Cartman having a little sister didn't happen even though you could see her in the pilot episode. In "Starvin Marvin," the original script mentions Kenny's sister, but she didn't appear in the episode. In "Best Friends Forever" she finally appears hiding behind Kevin when Kenny's family is called to the hospital after Kenny was revived. Finally, six years after she last appeared, Kenny's sister is shown fully, and if she has a line or her name is mentioned, we'll know what she's called. For a while now, people have been calling her "Karen."
  12. November 19, 2011 - This news is three days old but... Esquire chooses its Americans Of The Year, and South Park gets three more years, so we'll get through Season 20. Who knows what'll happen in five yeears?
  13. Decembeer 2, 2011 - South Park: The Game is coming next summer. In this game, you'll become a kid in South Park and join the main four in adventures. Anyone remember Acclaim's "South Park"? Hopefully this time the game will succeed where the other one didn't. Also, Theater Advisor reports that TBoM has been nominated for a Grammy for the cast recording, it broken even in nine months, and MTvU has nominated Matt and Trey as its Men of the Year because they have "fearlessly pushed boundaries by taking shots at everyone from liberals and conservatives to the ultra-religious.".
